I’m Michael Powers, a lighting designer and programmer working across theatre, live television, concert-style productions, and large-scale events. I’m drawn to the same thing in every project: helping a creative idea become a moment an audience can feel.

I’m currently focused on land-based work and freelance internationally. My experience includes major boxing and MMA events, large scale conventions, national tours, Netflix specials, and touring as Lighting Director and Designer for Criss Angel MINDFREAK. I bring a practical, collaborative approach to the room, with the technical range to move from early ideas through programming, tech, and performance.

For more than ten years, I have also  been designing for Norwegian Creative Studios. This work has become an important chapter in my career, this includes every production of Syd Norman’s Pour House, now on seven ships, and Burn the Floor: Bossa Nova Beat aboard Norwegian Prima. I have also designed for Virgin and Celebrity cruise lines.

Working at sea helped shape the designer I am today, built lasting creative relationships, and brought my fiancée into my life. I’m proud of that work and the perspective it gave me, while looking ahead to new collaborations on land and sea.
